With Families

Worried about your child’s behaviour or relationships? Concerned about the impact of life events upon your family? Or how you all might struggle to adjust to new situations?

Every now and again parents worry about what might be going on for their children or family members. Systemic psychotherapy is a therapy which works with all family members to explore everyone’s ideas about the events and seeks to reconcile differences, open up communication so that it is easier to talk and listen to each other and so develop resilience when faced with adversity.

My approach to family therapy is to see different family members: parents, siblings, parents and children, grandparents, anyone else who is of importance to the family and find out everyone’s different views about the problem. Listening and talking to each other is key to this way of working.

With parents

Struggling with your relationship with your child? Worried about the differences of parenting between you and your partner?

My work with either individual or both parents explores your own experiences in your family of origin which has informed your ideas about parenting and how you are parenting your children.

With couples

Worried about your relationship with your partner? How you are finding your relationship stressful?

There are times when the couple relationship is strained and stressful for both partners. My work is with couples who find it difficult to talk with each other, find themselves at odds with each other, one may suffer from depression or anxiety, there may be domestic violence, thinking about divorce.

My approach is to meet with couples individually or together to explore their differences, how events and their responses to events have shaped their ideas about themselves and each other and how they can move forward more positively.

With individuals

People can experience difficulties in their social and personal relationships or struggle with communicating with their partners.

My approach is to explore personal patterns of communication and use systemic ideas to help individuals feel more confident in their lives.

With children

Worried about your children’s relationships, friendships, how they are doing at school, effects of domestic violence, bereavement, separation or divorce upon children, adjustment to new partner, their children, becoming a step family?

Children at all ages are influenced by life events that affect their family. I work with children of all ages and explore with them and their parents their understanding of events that have impacted upon their parents and their family life and help them articulate their emotions and thoughts to their parents.

My Approach

I work at the client’s pace and explores their beliefs, thoughts, emotions and behaviours within their relationships with family members and others. I take into account the wider social contexts and attend to race, culture, sexuality, religion and the importance of these issues on peoples’ everyday lives. I offer a service for clients tailored to their needs over an agreed length of time with the client.
